Recycled synthetic fibers for upholstery

In order to offer technical and comfortable materials, while minimising their impact on the environment, we have chosen to use synthetic loose fibres for the lining of our cold weather clothing.

The many advantages of this material allow us to offer both high technical performance and the lowest environmental impact.

  • Recycled synthetic loose fibres provide comfortable warmth and reliable insulation in many conditions.
  • These technical properties are retained even in wet weather, where animal down fillings are sometimes challenged in their effectiveness, which suffers in damp or wet conditions.
  • The drying of synthetic filling fibres is much faster and easier to manage than animal down, which is more fragile when used outdoors.
  • The material we use for the insulation of our technical clothing is remarkably light and compact, qualities that are essential for dynamic mountain sports, especially ski touring.
  • The fibres do not escape from the compartments of the garments: the garments retain their qualities, consistency and appearance for a long time.
  • Regular maintenance and washing is much easier than with animal quilts with a fibre that is versatile in terms of treatments. To find out more, you can find more information and tips on our Care page.

For many of its garments, AYAQ has chosen Thermore's recycled fibres, which are made from 100% mechanically recycled polyester, and have the : Bluesign / GRS.

These loose fibres have a downy feel and are very light. Their mechanical constitution allows a high resistance to the formation of aggregates during washing.

It is a mechanically recycled material: the bottles are first sorted and then crushed into chips which are melted down (without the use of chemicals) to make granules. These pellets are then heated and processed with high-precision machines to make yarn.

You can find more information about our choices of recycled polyester materials on our Recycled Polyester page.
