Take off the skins at the end of the ascent

Preserving the glue on your skins

Making your skins last means preserving their glue.

The glue on your skins is very fragile. Adopt a few reflexes and you can greatly extend their life.

1 - Keep your skins warm

When not under your skis, keep your skins close to your body to keep them warm. The LONAK Hardshell Jacket is designed for ski touring and has large interior pockets for easy storage of skins.

2 - Put them on a clean and dry ski

In order for the skins to stay on the ski for the duration of your ascent, but more importantly for the duration of your climb, it is essential to put them on a ski that is neither dirty nor wet, without snow or ice crystals. Use a cloth to clean your skis before putting the skins on.

3 - Glue the skins back onto their protective plastic

At the end of your ascent, you should glue your skins back onto their protective plastic or their original packaging. This will prevent glue build-up when folding them.

4 - Do not dry your skins against a heat source

Ideally, you should air dry your skins. It may be tempting to dry them by the fire or on a radiator, but this is a bad idea. There is nothing worse to degrade the glue on your skins!
