Making skins last means preserving their glue.
The glue on your skins is very fragile. Adopt a few simple reflexes and you'll be able to greatly extend their lifespan.
1 - Keep your skin warm
When they're not under your skis, keep your skins close to your body to keep them warm. The LONAK Hardshell Jacket is designed for ski touring, with large interior pockets for easy storage of skins.
2 - Place them on a clean, dry ski
To ensure that the skins stay on the ski for the duration of your ascent, but above all for the long haul, it's essential to put them on a ski that's neither dirty nor wet, with no snow or ice crystals. Use a rag to clean your skis before fitting the skins.
3 - Glue the skins back onto their protective plastic.
At the end of your ascent, glue your skins back onto their protective plastic or original packaging. This will prevent glue build-up when folding.
4 - Don't dry your skin against a heat source
Ideally, you should air-dry your skins. It may be tempting to dry them by the fire or on a radiator, but this is a bad idea. There's nothing worse for degrading the glue on your skins!
