Making your skins last means preserving their glue.
The glue on your skins is very fragile. Adopt a few precautions and you can greatly extend their lifespan.
1 - Keep your skin warm
When they're not under your skis, keep your skins close to your body to keep them warm. The LONAK Hardshell jacket was designed for ski touring and features large interior pockets for easy skin storage.
2 - Place them on a clean, dry ski
To ensure your skins stay on your skis for the duration of your ascent, and especially for the long term, it is essential to place them on skis that are neither dirty nor wet, and free of snow or ice crystals. Use a cloth to clean your skis before placing the skins on them.
3 - Glue the skins back onto their protective plastic
At the end of your climb, you should reattach your skins to their protective plastic or original packaging. This will prevent glue buildup when folding them.
4 - Do not dry your skins against a heat source
Ideally, you should dry your skins in the open air. It may be tempting to dry them by the fire or on a radiator, but this is a bad idea. Nothing will damage the glue on your skins!
