Mike Horn

Mike Horn, Director of Product Development at AYAQ

Exploring the limits of the world to better equip the explorers of today and tomorrow.

A legend of extreme exploration

Mike Horn has been traveling the most hostile terrain on the planet for over 25 years, through extraordinary expeditions, without motorization, often in complete autonomy.

1997 – Descent of the Amazon River
Mike Horn traveled more than 7,000 kilometers from Peru to the Atlantic alone, swimming and paddling through dense forests, rapids, and wildlife.

1999 – Latitude Zero: Around the world via the equator
Without ever using a motorized vehicle, he circumnavigated the globe by following the imaginary line of the equator. He covered more than 40,000 kilometers by sail, foot, bicycle, and canoe.

2006 – Arctic Polar Night Expedition
First man to reach the North Pole alone in winter, in total darkness and temperatures below –60°C.
A unique feat of endurance, on skis and pulling his own equipment.

2016 – Pole2Pole Expedition
A world tour via both poles, combining sailing, trekking, and skiing. The goal: to witness the visible effects of climate change in extreme environments.

2017 – Crossing the Antarctic
In 57 days, Mike Horn crossed Antarctica alone, covering more than 5,100 kilometers, using only his skis and a sled. An exceptional physical and mental feat.

A total commitment to the environment

During his expeditions, Mike Horn witnessed firsthand the ecological upheavals affecting the oceans, ice and forests.
Aware of the climate emergency, he has been committed for several years to raising awareness among younger generations and promoting a more responsible relationship with nature.

His "What's Left" project illustrates this desire: a series of educational expeditions to explore and document the most fragile areas of the globe, with the aim of inspiring concrete actions for their preservation.
