Eco-friendly water-repellent treatments
Technical clothing 3 ème Today's coats often feature water-repellent treatments.
For many years, these water-repellent finishes have been composed of fluorocarbons, and more specifically perfluorocarbons (PFCs). These PFCs are hydrophobic to repel water, and lipophobic to repel grease.
These chemicals have been denounced in particular by the scientific community and by certain NGOs because PFCs are highly toxic, even in small doses. They are considered carcinogenic, endocrine disruptors and extremely polluting for the environment, as they do not degrade.
AYAQ chooses its fabrics without applying finishes for some (1 era or 2 ème layer), to reduce the amount of substances applied when not necessary and justified.
For the 3 èmes coatings that require water-resistant qualities, AYAQ selects fabrics with a PFC-free water-repellent treatment.
Since the alarms sounded by a number of whistleblowers in 2015, PFC-free finishing alternatives have been developed and improved, offering remarkable water-repellent performance well up to the demands of intense mountain practice.
For the time being, however, there is still a limit, with performance slightly less effective than PFC treatments in terms of resistance to washing and grease staining.
With the urgent need to save our planet as a priority, AYAQ puts the environment ahead of stain-resistant performance.
